About the Symposium


What stories do we tell about the creatures we share our world with? How do these narratives shape our understanding, policies, and everyday actions? And what might sustainable futures look like if we tell stories differently, by centering the voices of the more-than-human, from the ocean deep to the urban margins? 


Creaturely Stories is an interdisciplinary research symposium examining how cultural, legal, scientific, and artistic perspectives can reshape our understanding of coexistence. From island literature to science conservation, from marine law to participatory art, this symposium investigates the ways we imagine, represent, and negotiate life in a multispecies world. Bringing together local and international scholars and practitioners across law, animal welfare, natural sciences, and the arts, the event features two panels and an online screening (“Life (Cycle) of the Hong Kong Newt”).
