Waters Will Know: Citizen Science Explores Hong Kong's Coasts
The SUSHUM Sub-Project, ‘Waters Will Know’, unites marine science, island studies, and community action to investigate climate change impacts on Hong Kong’s coastal ecosystems. Partnering with the Island Studies Network (Hong Kong), this citizen science initiative empowers university students and the public to document ecological changes through hands-on fieldwork.
Guided by experts from EdUHK and marine biologists, participants explore diverse coastal sites—from Lamma Island’s Sok Kwu Wan to Tai Po’s Ting Kok—collecting data on biodiversity, pollution, and climate effects. The project fosters interdisciplinary learning, turning participants into active stewards of Hong Kong’s waters.
